- John Berryhill, director of Smith’s Botanic Garden, and Jesse Bellemare, associate professor of biological sciences, are featured in the Daily Hampshire Gazette article “Smith profs as tree saviors: Scientists creating botanical garden in Whately of mountain magnolia, an Appalachian species susceptible to climate change.”
- Professor Steven Heydemann was named a Wilson Center Fellow. As part of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ 2024–25 fellowship class, Heydemann will work on his project “Trajectories of Stateness in the Arab World” during a nine-month residence in Washington, D.C.
- Professor Nancy Cohen, a lecturer in writing and public discourse at Smith, received an Edward R. Murrow Award in the hard news category. Her winning story, which focuses on clergy sexual abuse, was published by New England Public Media.
- Professor Loretta Ross takes a long and hopeful view of the current political moment.

- Sarah Green ’11 has been appointed to the position of Winemaker at Neely Wine, the women-led estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA.
- Jeremey Ivey MA ’09, who completed a master's in exercise and sports studies at Smith, is one of Rowing Canada's national team coaches. He was in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
- Cass Bird ’99, an accomplished photographer who’s shot such stars as Taylor Swift and Elisabeth Moss, recently spoke with Scott Campbell on the ‘Stupid Things for Love’ Podcast about the art of capturing one’s personality in a portrait.
- Fany Velasquez Hannon AC ’05 was appointed Dean at UConn. In a statement, Hannon’s contributions were deemed instrumental in fostering a place where students can feel safe, loved, and challenged.
- Celebrated choreographer and dancer Aretha Aoki, M.F.A. ’08 was named the A. LeRoy Greason Chair in the Creative Arts at Bowdoin.
- Thelma Golden ’87, director and chief curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem, and Tigress Osborn ’96, fat rights advocate and chair of the board of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, and are among TIME Magazine’s most influential people of 2024.
