Jennifer Beichman is the junior class dean. She is a senior lecturer in mathematical sciences, and her teaching at Smith has been focused on pedagogy and equity in introductory calculus courses. In her efforts to support students in mathematics and foster equity in STEM, she helped restructure calculus courses as coordinated courses with class time dedicated to small group work. She regularly coordinates the introductory calculus courses, and she is passionate about advising students both in and outside of STEM. She is a recipient of the Sherrerd Award for Distinguished Teaching for 2024.

Before coming to Smith in 2016, Beichman was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed her Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Michigan in dispersive differential equations, fluid mechanics and harmonic analysis and her bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Stanford University. When she is not teaching mathematics and advising students, she is finding ways to make things with her hands, ideally with her family - cooking, baking, knitting, or making pottery.
